I know, I know I've been a bad blogger this week and this is probably going to roll into next. I am moving around the corner and yes, it's close it doesnt make the process that a whole lot easier.

Fedra

Mia amiga Nicole is a published playwright about to roll into 3x over. Her upcoming play 'Fedra' will launch in Chicago (she is part of Looking Glass) in the Fall. When she started telling me about the premise of Fedra, after about 2 minutes I glazed over and asked for the Cliff Notes. It was so complex, creative and out of this world!

Vivier II

Ahhhhh - WHAT a Spectacular day!
Me & my electronic buddies are at odds of late, endless blackberry issues and my computer pops offline whenever it damn well feels like it.
My trip to Sacramento had a huge Palo Alto, San Jose hell lets take the 101 detour back. So I missed the Vivier show Thursday night. If I attended I would have surely bought the messenger bag (top right) in dove grey. Soon you will be mine, my sweet~

Governor Arnold & Blade your Ride

I am up in Sacramento for the CA Green Summit. The show has been exceptional and rumors were swirling that Arnold would be stopping by. When we learned that he was going to meet up with Obama in LA tonight we thought they were just that, RUMORS. Today I was watching the booth when a man approached me and started asking questions. Next thing I know, he tells me he is scouting for Arnold, get ready we will have a minute, literally a minute to talk to the Governor. We find Bill, our CEO, and wait and Arnold enters the hall hits and few booths and then BAM. He and his huge entourage arrive..Bill's minute with the Governor becomes 10 and Arnold says - This seems like the solution. Case closed, end of day.

I've said many times that eco is as much about sustainable style and reuse as the purchase of a new product with an organic fabric. Take the fab accessory line Vivier I recently discovered. And made right here in the City of Angels.

No cook cook

I am a good cook and a GREAT 'assembler!' I assembled a variation of this recipe last night, I omitted the pasta, upped the lettuce, added yellow tomatoes. Had they been in season, heirloom tomatoes would have been delish.

Pasta with Peas, Asparagus, Butter Lettuce, and Prosciutto
6 to 8 servings

Ingredients
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil plus additional for drizzling
1/2 pound spring onions or green onions (dark green parts discarded); white parts cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices, pale green parts cut into 1/2-inch-thick slices
2 tablespoons minced shallot
Coarse kosher salt
1/2 cup dry white wine
1/2 cup low-salt chicken broth
1 1/2 pounds asparagus, cut crosswise into 3/4-inch pieces
2 cups shelled fresh peas (from about 2 pounds peas in pods) or 2 cups frozen petite peas, thawed
1 pound campanelle (trumpet-shaped pasta) or medium (about 1-inch) shell-shaped pasta
1 head of butter lettuce or Boston lettuce (about 6 ounces), cored, leaves cut into 3/4-inch-wide slices
1 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese plus additional for sprinkling
1/2 cup chopped fresh Italian parsley
4 oz thinly sliced prosciutto, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch-wide strips
Preparation
Melt butter with 2 tablespoons oil in heavy large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and shallot. Sprinkle with coarse salt and pepper. Sauté until tender (do not brown), about 8 minutes. Add wine; increase heat to medium-high and simmer until liquid is reduced to glaze, about 3 minutes. Add broth and bring to simmer; set aside.
Cook asparagus in large pot of boiling salted water until just tender, 2 to 4 minutes, depending on thickness of asparagus. Using skimmer or slotted spoon, transfer to large bowl of ice water. Return water to boil. Add peas and cook until just tender, about 2 minutes. Using skimmer, transfer to bowl with asparagus. Drain vegetables.
Return water in pot to boil. Cook pasta until tender but still firm to bite, stirring occasionally. Drain, reserving 1 cup pasta cooking liquid.
Meanwhile, reheat onion mixture. Add lettuce and stir just until wilted, about 1 minute. Add drained asparagus and peas; stir until heated through.
Add pasta, 1 cup Parmesan cheese, and parsley to skillet with vegetables; toss, adding reserved pasta cooking liquid by 1/4 cupfuls if dry. Season with salt and pepper.
Transfer pasta to large shallow bowl. Sprinkle prosciutto over; drizzle with olive oil. Serve, passing more cheese alongside.

Expo West

After spending Friday and Saturday in Anaheim I am still recovering...one item of note, especially considering I am a sucker for packaging. The Kor Water bottle. This is a BPA free plastic bottle that has a beautiful streamlined shape. As I carried around my bottle Friday it was a definite conversation starter. Shit (pun intended)!!!!! A year ago March when I heard airlines were charging for pillows and blankets I half-joked on this very blog soon you would have to pay to make use of the toilet - http://goldandsilverstars.blogspot.com/2008/03/extra-bag-costs.html. Turns out, unfortunately I was on to something. I have to say this is ridiculous and totally disgusting. If Ryanair can't afford to run an airline without charging extra to go the bathroom then perhaps you should rethink having an airline.

Isabel Marant

I am a huge fan of Isabel. And for better or for worse the store right around the corner Heist carries her in multiples. It seems Isabel is getting a lot more press in the American Fashion Rags too. These boots were shown in her runway collection - fab but wayyy out of my ballpark. At $1000+ a pair I do find it interesting that a number of stores in NYC are reporting they can't keep them on the shelves.



What are in my price range (well kinda) are these boots from Coclico on Shopbop.com. As far as shopping on the web, I've had really good luck with this site. Good selection, GREAT sales (there might even be one now!) and nice staff. Check it out!

Some of you may question why someone (meaning me) who works predominately in the green or eco world is posting about new shoes, bags, etc. I think it is a much about sustainability in terms of design and quality as it is about organic materials, same goes for craftsmanship and production. Design and style over trends.

Capitol Fashion

Is an oxymoron. Growing up in DC I can tell you this city is seriously lacking in the fashion dept. Go downtown during business hours and the women can be seen in herds rocking their favorite white tennies with their powersuits (yes they still wear powersuits). Michelle Obama Will definitely help to shake things up but I couldn't help to wonder what would come from her sleeveless (Albeit lovely) choice for the B's address to the Congress. To some degree those in and around 'The Mall' like to think of these buildings similar to a visiting a church in Europe = no bare shoulders. Clutch v Basket

What is with me and the Lanvin lately??? First the shoes and now the clutch. Its actually the reverse but I am only getting around to blogging on the clutch. Back to the clutch, perfect for riding around Venice with no basket on my bike. Humm, perhaps I should focus more on a practical basket than a beautiful clutch. F that - where's the fun??

Maybe someone wants to gift me a basket?? Or me the first to donate to my clutch fund...

If I could have only tolerated those awesome vintage (Mom was original owner) Chanel door-knocker earrings....Anywoo - here is a beautiful Chanel (the color is amazing!!) from MOMA. This dress looks so modern and fresh. Well, its was created in 1927, yup that's Chanel for you.

Independent Spirit Awards II

As you may or may not know when I am not working on sponsorships, product placement, gift bags or something in that world, I am a consultant for Bladeyourride.com. Some times they overlap, and this was the case last year when I was working on David Arquette and Ben Harper's clothing launch. I approached a very large limo company in LA about Blade. They purchased a few, saw the results immediately, Bladed their entire fleet and then provided transportation for Propr.

It's important to add...as a result of Prop, Ben Harper and Laura Dern not only learned about, but have become extremely supportive of Blade! Thanks guys!

In December, I approached the Independent Spirit Awards with this case study. I knew the event would be a carbon neutral event and I knew this non-profit had never offered chauffeured transportation for its presenters. They loved the idea and we offered this as an option for the presenters. Presenter/Actors including; Alec Baldwin, Jessica Alba, Andie MacDowell and about 8 others took eco-transportation. It was a win win for all!

Last Week

It's always great to attend a party or two but when its a party or two a night it can be taxing...that is what happened last week. I did swing into the Global Green Pre Oscar Party on Thursday. I can't comment on the performances since I was upstairs in the VIP which had a rocking DJ so we camped out there.

The Indepedent Spirit Awards occurred on Saturday and drinking endless glasses of Champagne, eating pretty good food, especially when you consider it was catered for 1500, and mingling with many many actors that I GUSH over is a great way to spend your Saturday afternoon.

Many of you may not know, the awards are technically the Film Independent Spirit Awards and Film Independent is a non-profit. If you want to continue to have the option of independent films at your local cinema you may want to support this org.

La Boudoir (link above) has a well written blog post today. It's definitely a 'demms the breaks' time in our world...banking exes, who somehow sleep at night with millions and billions in the bank while we have to wipe up their mistakes. When I was growing up, if you failed something you were let go, not giving more money to try again. And then there is the housing situation but I am getting too worked up just thinking about those people who took out huge seconds on overvalued homes, spent all the cash and now we are bailing out.

How about a tax cut or rebate to those Americans who follow the rules; pay their bills on time and have good credit history. Aren't they the ones to be rewarded?

A hundie

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Santa Monica pier. Last night I was invited to a small gathering at the Carousel. The party was nice and Joan Baez performed a few songs. The coolest part of the evening was driving on the pier and parking for free! Hey, its the little things....

Massage Weirdness

I think I am still defrosting from the NAACP Awards, more on that later....I cashed in a gift certificate for a massage yesterday. The massage was nice but all of the sudden the therapist was brushing my hair. Ok - one GROSS who else has used the brush and two my hair is curly/wavy and is not brushed when dry~
